With high winds and low temperatures this week, advocates are out in New London making sure the most vulnerable people are off the streets and somewhere warm.
“Our number one concern is people's safety," said David Horst, the manager of Homeless Hospitality Center Outreach Engagement.

When the frigid cold hits, Horst and his team spend the evenings outside checking up on people experiencing homelessness.
“People ask me why are people homeless? And the number one reason is people who are homeless are primarily impoverished," he said. "They simply don't have the money, cannot afford a place. Even if they receive Social Security income, that's 900 some dollars a month.”
