All labourers were from Gelapukhuri Tea Estate in Tinsukia

The Assam government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the 21 labourers who were killed in a tragic road accident in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district on December 7.

Assam cabinet ministers Atul Bora and Keshav Mahanta took stock of the families of the deceased labourers today.

22 labourers, all from Gelapukhuri Tea Estate in Tinsukia, were travelling to Hayuliang for construction-related work.

The truck carrying the labourers plunged into a deep gorge along the Hayuliang–Chaglagam Road in Anjaw district.

Of the 22 workers, one survived the accident.

The truck is believed to have skidded off the hilly road and fallen nearly 1,000 feet into a steep gorge.
