The Glasgow to East Kilbride train line is officially going electric from Sunday (December 14), when ScotRail's new timetable begins. Once the new schedule is in force, 75 per cent of services running between Glasgow Central and East Kilbride will be operated by more environmentally-friendly electric trains.
These new electric trains will replace the four-carriage class 156 diesel trains that currently operate on the route, while six-carriage diesel trains will remain in use on the line. It comes as part of a £144 million investment from the Scottish Government and support from Network Rail to modernise the route between Glasgow and East Kilbride, allowing quieter and more sustainable electric trains to run on the line.
