An Upstate New York teacher and coach has been arrested after allegedly exchanging sexual messages with a student.
Scott M. Jeffers, 42, of Johnstown, N.Y., was charged Thursday with endangering the welfare of a child, New York State Police said. He surrendered himself to troopers at the Troop G Fonda police station in Fultonville, where he was arrested and processed.
Jeffers is accused of “inappropriate communications” with a student under the age of 17 via social media, text messages, voice calls and in person. Jeffers is a special education teacher at Johnstown Junior/Senior High School, where he also coached soccer and track-and-field teams that provided him “additional access to the alleged victim,” police said.
