The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating a police-involved shooting in Scott County that left one person died on Thursday, Dec. 11.

The incident involved the Scott County Sheriff's Office and Morton Police Department, officials said.

Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety , stated in a press release that deputies in Scott County responded Thursday to a call about a suspect attempting to enter vehicles in the parking lot of a business.

Martin said when deputies arrived, they saw the suspect driving a yard-truck through the parking lot.

According to Martin, deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, who fled the area in the vehicle. Martin said deputies pursued the suspect onto Mississippi Highway 13 in Morton.
