Court dates moved to February for teen suspects in fatal shooting of Zane Hughes

During a scheduled Dec. 8 hearing, the next court date was moved to Feb. 9, 2026, for two of the teenage suspects in the fatal shooting of Zane Hughes at Avalon Pier on July 31.

At the Dec. 8 session before by Superior Court Judge Andrew Womble, the next hearing for Henry Hargis was rescheduled to Feb. 9, 2026. Hargis, of Kill Devil Hills, was arrested on the day of the shooting of Hughes, a 19-year-old Colington resident. Hargis has been charged with First Degree Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.
