A man who killed his mother, by stabbing her more than 30 times in a brutal attack that ended in the street where he kept attacking as she was lying dying in the middle of the road, has been handed a life sentence with a minimum of 21 years.
Leicester Crown Court heard details of the killing for the first time on Friday, December 12, as Daniel Cook was sentenced for manslaughter. Three psychologists agreed he was suffering from schizophrenia and believed his mum Ellen Cook, 72, was a witch, Leicestershire Live reports .
Cook, 39, had been living in Ashby at the time, where he ran a business selling books and other things online. He wanted to move back to his parents' home in Littlethorpe, near Leicester. At a family dinner on Sunday, May 11, his mother announced that
