Southern Utah will welcome Hanukkah, Judaism's "festival of lights," with two community menorah-lighting ceremonies in Cedar City and St. George, and a public celebration built around hope and spiritual resilience.
Rabbi Mendy Cohen, of the Chabad Jewish Community Center of Southern Utah, said the events share Hanukkah’s message in a way that welcomes people of every background.
“Public menorahs represent the visibility of Jewish identity,” he said. “The light of the menorah symbolizes triumph of flight, freedom and truth over darkness, over oppression and over hatred. Public menorah gatherings bring people of all faiths ... together (in) celebration.”
