After spending 45 years in classrooms teaching children, 72-year-old Shaker Heights resident Michele Sudow was looking for a new challenge post-retirement.

Throughout her teaching career, Sudow consistently imparted wisdom to Cleveland’s Jewish youth in Cleveland’s Jewish schools, having spent 42 of her 45-year career doing so at the Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School in Beachwood. Upon retirement, Sudow told the Cleveland Jewish News she tried her hand at substitute teaching in public schools, but decided it wasn’t for her.

Sudow eventually found her calling volunteering to take middle school and high school classes on tours of exhibits at the Maltz Museum in Beachwood two or three mornings a week before the museum ceased to use volunteer docents for school tours in the summer
