Joshua Iyamu was just 20 years old when he was fatally shot while at a Newark recording studio on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

He is survived by his father Victor.

A fundraiser has been established to help Victor during his time of time of need.

"Joshua...was a kid with a good heart and big dreams," Didi Obikulu, who created the fundraiser said. "He talked often about joining the military, building a better future, and changing his life for the better. Despite the hardships he faced — including losing his mother at a young age — he remained determined, resilient, and full of potential.

The fundraiser will go toward funeral expenses and memorial arrangements.

At 8 p.m. police were called to 790 Clinton Ave., for reports of gunfire, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.

The location was described as a studio used to record music videos and is listed online as Platinum Sounds.

Officers arrived and found four males with gunshot wounds, authorities said. Namir Bynum, a 20-year-old Newark resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Iyamu was pronounced dead at University Hospital, authorities said.

Two additional victims were taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

As of Friday, Dec. 12, more than $1,000 has been raised. To view the fundraiser, click here.
