NORFOLK, Va. — Dangerously cold temperatures are on the way in the next few days, raising the risk of hypothermia and other cold-related illnesses. Doctors say severe cases can lead to emergency room visits, and prevention is the best way to stay safe.
Dr. Nancy Welch with the Virginia Department of Health said rapidly changing temperatures can increase the risk for hypothermia and frostbite, especially for people who are not prepared.
She said the first step is dressing for the conditions. That includes wearing layers, keeping skin covered, and staying as dry as possible. Beyond staying warm, Dr. Welch said keeping up with your health is also key.
