OTTAWA — Buoyed by the defection of another Conservative MP to the government benches, Liberal House Leader Steven MacKinnon claimed Friday that there are more disgruntled Tories who might find a home in Prime Minister Mark Carney’s caucus.

The Liberal government is now just one seat shy of holding a majority in the House of Commons, with two Conservatives crossing the floor — and a third having seriously considered doing so, as the Star has reported — in little over a month.

The latest departure occurred in a surprise move Thursday night, when Markham—Unionville MP Michael Ma ditched the Conservatives to join Carney’s Liberals. He later appeared to fanfare and applause at the governing party’s holiday bash.
