Local groups will lay wreaths at the headstones of fallen service members at Santa Maria and Guadalupe cemeteries Saturday, seeking to further the yearlong mission of the national organization Wreaths Across America to "Remember, Honor, Teach," and ensure the memory of those who served endures.
The ceremonies are among more than 4,900 across the country recognizing National Wreaths Across America Day, and are coordinated and led by local volunteers.
In Santa Maria, sponsorship groups have raised funds throughout the year to sponsor the placement of 240 wreaths on headstones.
The ceremony starts at noon at Santa Maria Cemetery District, 1501 S. College Dr., and is hosted by Civil Air Patrol Vandenberg Composite Squadron 101, with Cadet Color Guard.
