Bulk trash pickup will get easier in Toledo next month with new procedures announced Friday by city officials.
Beginning Jan. 5, residents won’t have to call and schedule pickup for bulk trash because Republic Services will collect bulky items each week, said Megan Robson, the city’s director of public service.
That means the recliner that’s been replaced for a newer model or the old carpeting can go out on regular trash days — with some caveats.
Residents can put out up to five bulk items or bundles weighing no more than 40 pounds each. Bags must be tied. Branches and wood items need to be bundled, not loose, and mattresses and other bedding should be wrapped. Nails in wood need to be pounded down.
Those restrictions are about safety, Ms. Robson said.
