Mayor-elect Helena Moreno's inauguration weekend will feature a city-wide day of service and free festival in Lafayette Square showcasing New Orleans musicians and culture, ahead of a Jan. 12 ceremony at the Saenger Theatre where she'll she take the oath of office.
In a departure from years past, Moreno will not hold an inaugural ball. The events will all be funded by private donations and not city funds, Moreno said.
"What we want to do with the inauguration is make sure the entire city feels like it’s a part of it," Moreno said Friday at a press conference at Gallier Hall unveiling the schedule for her "All In for New Orleans" inaugural celebration.
"This inauguration is not about me," Moreno added. "It's about the people of the city, and it's about celebrating our city."
