LOS ANGELES - David Letterman says he’s reached the point in life where strangers don’t always recognize him — and sometimes confuse him for another comedy legend.

During a Dec. 9 appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the 78-year-old former late-night host recalled being mistaken for Dick Van Dyke, who turns 100 this week .

Letterman joked that since stepping away from late-night television , he’s less recognizable than he once was.

“People used to know who I am,” he told Kimmel, adding that he now feels like he needs a name tag to avoid confusion.
