WAVELAND, Miss. (WLOX) - On Friday, Waveland Police responded to a report of a grenade on the front porch of a Herlihy Street apartment.

Officials with the Waveland Police Department (WPD) said a woman living in that apartment reported she found a grenade on her doorstep.

WPD said when officers arrived on scene, they identified the device as a training grenade.

Out of an abundance of caution, WPD called the Biloxi Bomb Squad, who took the training grenade away.

WLOX News spoke to a neighbor who said she was told to temporarily leave her home while law enforcement responded.

WPD is checking the area for surveillance video that might show how the grenade ended up on the porch.

There is no active threat at this time.
