SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - Sumner County Animal Services (SCAS) said it is pausing all adoptions and intakes due to a breakout of Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) at the shelter.
The shelter said it was notified Wednesday that a dog in the shelter’s care from Nov. 10 to Nov. 21 tested positive for CDV. When the dog came into SCAS, it was fully vaccinated, examined by a veterinarian and showed no symptoms during its stay, the shelter said.
As of Thursday, five dogs at SCAS developed symptoms and tested positive for CDV.
Due to the multiple positive cases, SCAS said it would be temporarily pausing all dog adoptions and dog intakes.
