ROCKFORD, Ill. — The city government and a developer are in talks of redeveloping a downtown landmark.

The City of Rockford and Urban Equity Properties are in the process of bringing a redevelopment agreement to City Council that would result in the former Rockford Register Star building being adapted into 80 apartment units, a restaurant, and retail space.

City Administrator Todd Cagnoni confirmed the news to 13 WREX in an email.

The former Star building is located at 99 E. State St. in downtown Rockford.

It was previously bought by Iconic Energy in 2021 , who made major changes to the building .

The announcement comes after Urban Equity Properties cut the ribbon at Nu-State Apartments , another new apartment complex located at 119 N. Church St.
