Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3251 wanted to share their story with the public outside of the city’s Resident Café on Thursday night.

Braving the cold by standing in front of the Benson Centre, union members and supporters spoke to the handful of people who turned up for the event, as well as anyone who attended the recreation centre for other reasons.

The union’s demonstration called for accountability in Cornwall’s 2026 budget and sounded the alarm over the city’s recent confirmation 26 staff positions were to be eliminated , having cited budgetary pressures ; 14 CUPE Local 3251 members were among those whose positions were included in the cuts.
