FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Indiana Senate struck down a redistricting plan despite pressure from President Trump to redraw the state’s congressional map to help the GOP maintain control of the House in the midterms.
21 Republicans voted against Trump’s demand, prompting cheers from protesters outside the Senate chamber.
Jim Carpenter, who made two trips from Fort Wayne to the Statehouse to protest against redistricting, said he was overwhelmed by the result.
“It was just fabulous. We thought it would be closer than it was, but we were overwhelmed with the result,” Carpenter said.
Trump vows political retaliation
Trump responded by vowing to unseat Senate President Pro Tempore Rod Bray.
