Michael Davis, an experienced runner who has completed races as long as 100 miles, has taken on a new challenge by running more than 200 miles along the Palmetto Trail from northeastern Charleston County to Columbia this weekend. Davis' goal is to raise $10,000 to cover camp fees for children who otherwise couldn't afford to attend Young Life group camp.
Davis, who lives near Elgin, began his journey around 12 a.m. today at the Awendaw Passage near Charleston and plans to finish on Sunday afternoon at Riverfront Park in Columbia.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department will provide an escort for Davis as he passes through Columbia. Davis encourages anyone interested to join him for the last leg of his journey from Fort Jackson and help him cross the finish line.
