RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- It's that time of year when temperatures can get dangerously cold and that means it's time to prepare your home for cold weather.
People across the Triangle shared how they're preparing this winter.
"Just make sure I have plenty of wood at the house if the power goes out," Scott Mizerak said.
Mizerak was at Burke Brothers Hardware in Raleigh, where manager Tommy Hastings said ice melt, faucet covers and insulation to keep the cold air out are some of the top items.
"The first thing I always recommend to people is pick up some faucet covers," Hastings said.
Doing the work now to protect your pipes from freezing is one of the ways you can prepare.
Other safety tips include checking on your neighbors and bringing pets inside.
