Weather-walloped Western Washingtonians will likely see a reprieve from rain and flooding this weekend.

The reprieve comes after an atmospheric river caused major flooding across the region this week, submerging homes and roads, forcing evacuations and demanding water rescues for people surrounded by swiftly rising water.

National Weather Service forecasters expect mostly dry skies starting Friday will help the Skagit, Snohomish and Snoqualmie rivers sink below flood levels by Saturday night, said meteorologist Dev McMillian by phone Friday morning.

The respite will be short-lived, however.
