Because the Yankees badly need to remake their bullpen this winter, there had been speculation that would make a run at one of the pricy closers on the free-agent market even though they have David Bednar to pitch the ninth.
Nope.
The Yankees passed on making a run at three-time Mets All-Star Edwin Diaz, who signed with the Dodgers , and they passed on Robert Suarez, who joined the Braves after being a Padres All-Star the last two seasons.
So far, while two of the Yankees’ 11 free agent relievers have found new homes, their biggest bullpen transactions have been picking up left-hander Tim Hill’s club option, re-signing starter/reliever Ryan Yarbrough to a one-year contract and selecting former Cardinals prospect Cade Winquist in Wednesday’s Rule 5 draft.
