PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - A Colorado criminal case is sparking national conversation on the president’s power of pardon.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump took to social media to announce that he was issuing a full pardon for Tina Peters , the former Mesa County clerk and recorder who was convicted on election interference charges.

“Today I am granting Tina a full Pardon for her attempts to expose Voter Fraud in the Rigged 2020 Presidential Election!” Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“It’s just not something that Trump has the legal authority to do,” former Deputy District Attorney and current prosecutor Eric Faddis responded.

Faddis cited article II, section 2, clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution.
