ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) - A group of second graders in Ashwaubenon got a warm surprise on Friday.
A class at Valley View Elementary received some custom-made winter hats.
The hats were secretly knitted by the “Yarn It All” Kaukauna community group.
The project began four months ago when students drew their own hat designs.
They thought it was just an art activity, but their drawings became blueprints for the knitters.
“The coolest part is when they open up the card, and they remember like ‘Oh, I kind of remember when we did this and then you see the wheels start to turn. And you can see them go ‘Wait...is that what’s in here? Oh my gosh!’” Tricia Vertz, a teacher at Valley View Elementary, said.
Nearly a dozen knitters worked to put 42 hats together.
