The Los Angeles Fire Department Friday was honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard, steps away from the Hollywood Walk of Fame thanks to a letter written by a 14-year-old girl.

The LAFD received an Award of Excellence star for its public service while battling the Palisades and Sunset fires in January.

The recognition came after a Connecticut eighth-grader wrote a letter to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, suggesting a star for the brave firefighters.
