MADISON (WKOW) — Sunday marks the first day of Hanukkah, a Jewish festival known as the Feast of Dedication. The eight-day celebration commemorates the miracle of oil in the Second Temple of Jerusalem.

Ahead of the celebration, Gov. Tony Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers shared a special message with the community.

"Hanukkah reminds us that through community and faith, we can find hope and light where there is darkness," said Kathy Evers.

"And with all that is going on in the world today, it's more important than ever to celebrate the light and resilience that the holiday of Hanukkah represents," said Tony Evers.

"After all, we could all use a little more joy, a little more compassion, and a little more light in this holiday season," said Kathy Evers.
