NEW DELHI: With Christmas and New Year festivities nearing and entertainment venues expected to draw heavy crowds, Delhi excise department has banned the use of firecrackers — including electric variants — in clubs, restaurants and bars across the city. The decision comes in the wake of the recent Goa nightclub fire that killed at least 25 people and is aimed at strengthening public safety. In an order issued on Dec 10, the department directed all hotel, club and restaurant (HCR) licencees to maintain a valid fire NOC and ensure that all fire-safety systems remain fully functional.
