HUNTINGTON — Marshall's men’s basketball team took a new approach to limiting fouls ahead of its matchup with Western Kentucky.
“They were shooting 30 or more free throws a game,” Herd center Matt Van Komen said of the Hilltoppers. “We knew that coming into this game, so we worked on it a lot in practice. If you fouled in practice, you do 10 pushups for every foul. We worked on it.”
Who did the most?
“Drew (Fuquay),” Van Komen said immediately. “I think he did 55 straight.”
“Good pump in for him,” Noah Otshudi added.
The discipline helped lift Marshall in a 77-61 victory. The Hilltoppers were kept off the line, but the Herd defense remained potent. It made for a game in which Marshall wore down Western Kentucky with its pace while the Herd’s depth contributed.
