Essex County officials have announced an extension of Code Blue emergency procedures as dangerously cold temperatures continue across the region.
According to information released by county officials, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and Essex County Sheriff Amir Jones confirmed that Code Blue protections will remain in effect through Wednesday, December 17, at 8 a.m.
The declaration applies nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Code Blue protocols are activated when temperatures are expected to fall below 32 degrees or during periods of severe winter weather.
The measures are designed to protect individuals experiencing homelessness by ensuring access to warm, safe indoor spaces.
