Clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border continued on Saturday, even as US President Donald Trump reiterated claims that both sides had agreed to revive a ceasefire after days of deadly fighting.
Trump announced on Friday that he had secured an agreement to halt hostilities following phone calls with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said, “They have agreed to CEASE all shooting effective this evening, and go back to the original Peace Accord made with me, and them, with the help of the Great Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim.”
However, Thailand’s foreign ministry swiftly disputed the ceasefire assertion, while defence officials reported that clashes were still ongoing.
