A child who was in the back seat of a vehicle when it was stolen on Friday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood was later found safe, Chicago police said.
A 30-year-old man told police he got out of his running vehicle at approximately 11:21 p.m. along South Lafayette Avenue near West 73rd Street, while his 10-year-old child was still inside. When the man returned, he saw two people get inside his vehicle and take off, police said.
Authorities shared a description of the vehicle on police radio, and a short time later it was found near South Stewart Avenue and West 74th Street, approximately half a mile away.
The child was still inside the vehicle at the time and was unharmed, police said.
No one was in custody, and Area One detectives were investigating.
