As twelve teams prepare to make their run at the national championship game through the College Football Playoff, we're seeing top players on other teams start to decide and announce what they plan to do in the future, whether it be staying put, transferring, or heading off to the NFL.
Saturday morning brought major news on that front, with South Carolina GameCocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers announcing that he is going to return to Columbia for his redshirt junior season and play for the GameCocks once again in 2026. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the two sides are still negotiating a deal to get the QB to return for another year, but the current expectation is that he will not be declaring for the draft or entering the portal.
This is significant news for the GameCocks, who are hoping to turn the tide next year with a talented roster and head coach Shane Beamer needing an impressive result to save his job, in all likelihood.
What will be interesting to see is how much Sellers is going to garner in NIL from South Carolina to return. According to the On3 NIL Valuation, Sellers has a value of $2.6 million, meaning he would likely see a big contract coming his way in negotiations to return.
So far in his career, Sellers has thrown for 5,057 yards, 33 TDs, and 15 INTs, while adding 995 yards and 13 TDs on the ground in his 27 games played.
