A deadly terrorist attack on a United Nations base in Sudan's Abyei region tragically resulted in the deaths of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers. Eight other personnel were wounded during this assault, as confirmed by the Bangladesh Army on Saturday.

The attack highlights the risks faced by peacekeepers in this volatile region. The defence ministry's Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) directorate noted that fighting in the area remains ongoing.

Bangladesh, a major contributor to UN peacekeeping forces, currently deploys over 6,000 personnel across various conflict zones, including Sudan. Although the UN recently renewed its mandate for the Abyei mission, reports indicate challenges continue to intensify in the region.
