This winter, three men from south Manchester spent a month educating 200 young people about the pitfalls of extremism. Ismael Lea South, Otis Thomas, and Richard Ampeh spent their weekends in mosques across the neighbourhood.
For them, the workshop was about reaching a generation they are increasingly worried about.
“We focus incel culture, misogyny and Islamic extremism.” Said youth worker, Ismael.
“Unfortunately, because of what’s going on in Palestine, there are hate preachers or extremist groups who can use the issue to try and say, ‘what are you doing to help the people of Palestine?’
“We’re advising children to say, if you’re ever approached you need to report these people to a trusted elder, a social worker, parent and even your teachers.”
