A mum who was on holiday in New York City has been stabbed repeatedly in the bathroom of a famous department store. The 39-year-old victim from Southern California was in the toilets of Macy's changing her baby's nappy, police said.

The mum and her 10-month-old baby were in the bathroom on the seventh floor of Macy’s Herald Square at around 3pm on Thursday (December 11), the New York Police Department (NYPD) said. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition and discharged on Friday.

Police said her baby daughter was not harmed by a weapon, although prosecutors allege that during the horrific attack, the child fell from the changing table onto the floor, reports The Mirror .

The suspect, 43-year-old Kerri Aherne, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, appeared in court
