"Fake", "sterile" and "heartless" are just three words that have been used to describe Poundbury since its construction began in October 1993. The town, which is an urban extension to the county town of Dorchester in Dorset, is still being built on land belonging to the Duchy of Cornwall and it's fair to say the jury remains out on whether it is set to be a success or not.
Poundbury , which follows plans laid out in A Vision of Britain, the book by the then-Prince Charles, now King Charles, is set to be completed by 2028. Author Stephen Bayley has dubbed the town as "fake, heartless, authoritarian and grimly cute" while the Daily Mail previously labelled it a "ghost town".
