INDIANAPOLIS — More than 2,000 children will have presents under the tree this Christmas, thanks to a community effort at the Blackburn Terrace Apartments.

Judah Ministries handed out toys, shoes, food, coats and hats Saturday morning, Dec. 13 at the northeast Indianapolis apartment complex on Baltimore Avenue, near East 30th Street and North Keystone Avenue. Hundreds of volunteers helped sort and distribute donations, filling the courtyard with stacks of gifts and families lining up throughout the morning.

The annual giveaway has become a tradition for residents. It began 22 years ago with Alsia Jackson, who grew up just steps away from where the event is now held.
