LANSDALE, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- More than 30 years ago, Heather Doherty saw a poster advertising a synchronized swimming group called, 'The Mermaids,' at her local YMCA.
Doherty is now the head of that group, which meets once per week to jump in the pool to exercise and learn techniques.
However, it's been over a half decade since their last performance in front of an audience.
This week, they welcomed dozens of guests to the Lansdale Area Family YMCA for a holiday spectacular.
It was a victory lap for Doherty, who missed a year of swimming after being diagnosed with cancer.
See the video above to watch their talents in action.
