COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The flu season started at the end of September, beginning of October. Since then, the state dashboard is showing a surge of hospitalizations, cases spiking a bit earlier than usual.

Colorado’s Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) told 11 News hospitalizations are four times what they were in 2024 at this time. However, they tell us it’s not uncommon to see some years spike earlier in the month of December.

Health officials said they haven’t seen any spikes in COVID or RSV, however, one of the reasons for the increase in flu hospitalizations is due to cold weather.
