The ashes of notorious serial killer Dennis Nilsen have been scattered in the Scottish town where he grew up, just a day before what would have been his 80th birthday. ‌

The final farewell took place in the River Philorth, near Fraserburgh , and was carried out by long-time friend Mark Austin, a retired business owner who had known Nilsen for nearly 30 years. The ceremony took place on November 22 in a secluded location. ‌

Nilsen, who killed at least 12 young men and boys between 1978 and 1983, would befriend victims in pubs and bars before luring them to his flat, where he strangled them. ‌

Afterward, he carried out a ritual of bathing and dressing their bodies, keeping them for extended periods before disposing of the remains by burning them or flushing them
