Italian skier Luca de Aliprandini described Saturday's World Cup giant slalom at Val d'Isere as the hardest race of his life. This came just two days after his partner, Swiss ski champion Michelle Gisin, suffered a fall that necessitated neck surgery.

De Aliprandini finished 26th in the event, overshadowed by Gisin's hospital stay due to wrist, knee, and neck injuries. Despite the challenges, De Aliprandini honored Gisin's wish for him to race, stating the immense strength he drew from her amidst her improving condition.

Gisin, who was injured during downhill training in St Moritz, is recovering well post-surgery. De Aliprandini reported that she is conscious and mobile, providing a hopeful outlook as they anticipate the Milano Cortina Games in February.
