At least two people were killed and eight others were injured during a shooting reported at Brown University on Saturday afternoon.
According to the latest update from Brown University, officials confirmed that two people have been reported dead following reports of an active shooter near Barus & Holley Engineering on Dec. 13.
Eight others were listed in critical, but stable condition at the hospital following the incident, officials said.
A shelter in place order remained in place as of 6:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Police were still active in the area as of 7:30 p.m., officials said.
"We know there is a lot of fear and concern and uncertainty in the community right now," university officials said. "Law enforcement is actively working to identify the deceased victims, and the hospital personnel also are working to identify those transported to the hospital."
Officials said that students and staff should continue "taking all steps to remain safe. Follow the instructions of law enforcement personnel and avoid the area. The safety of our community is foremost."

Police are investigating a reported active shooter incident at Brown University on Saturday afternoon.
An emergency alert was issued by the university at 4:22 p.m. on Dec. 13, reporting an active shooter near Barus & Holley Engineering.
Students and staff were advised to lock doors, silence phones, and stay hidden until further notice.
"Remember: RUN, if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE, if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT, as a last resort, take action to protect yourself," officials said.
As of 5:15 p.m. Saturday, the shelter-in-place order remained in effect, and the public was advised to avoid the area.
Police do not have a suspect in custody and continue to search for suspects, officials said.
Brown is coordinating with "multiple law enforcement agencies on site. Emergency medical services are on the scene."
Congressman Gabe Amo said that he is monitoring the shooting and is in touch with law enforcement.
"If you are in danger, call 911," he said. "If you are in the area, please stay inside and allow law enforcement to do their work."
