A new survey shows which drinks people across the Northeast enjoy around the holidays.
Coffeeness released its 2025 list of the most popular festive drinks in the US for the holiday season. The analysis reviewed search patterns from the past 12 months to capture last year's Christmas peak and show which beverages each state turned to most.
Connecticut, Maryland, and New Jersey stood out for their interest in the espresso martini, placing it among the 11 states where the cocktail ranked first.
"The espresso martini's performance in this year's data represents one of the most significant shifts in American festive drinking culture we've seen in recent years," Coffeeness CEO Arne Preuss said. "Having seen a revival in popularity just a few years ago, it's now standing shoulder-to-shoulder with beverages that have defined American holidays for generations."
Massachusetts and Pennsylvania appreciated French 75 cocktails the most. Both states were among four that showed higher search interest for the champagne-based classic than any other festive beverage.
New York's most-searched drink was the amaretto sour.
"The sweet-tart combination of amaretto liqueur, fresh lemon juice, and optional bourbon offers warmth and complexity without overwhelming the palate," Coffeeness said.
While it's more of a fall holdover, Virginia preferred apple cider for the holidays. Ten other states chose apple cider as their favorite, and the drink is versatile because it can be enjoyed hot or cold and with or without alcohol.
Hot chocolate was the most popular overall drink, finishing first in 13 states.
"Americans still crave the simple comfort of this childhood classic during the holiday season," Coffeeness said. "Whether topped with marshmallows, whipped cream, or a candy cane stirrer, this beverage remains the ultimate symbol of winter coziness."
