WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Five people have been selected for induction into the Kansas State High School Activities Association Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.
One of them is Barry Sanders, the Kansas legend who started playing football at Wichita North High School and ended up at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Sanders played football for three years at North High and became the starting running back in game three of his senior year. After high school, he attended Oklahoma State University, where he received the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award and a Unanimous All-American honor.
In 1989, Sanders was the third overall pick in the NFL Draft to the Detroit Lions. In 1994 and 1997, Sanders was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year.
