WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Paid parking was introduced in Wichita this year, and as Christmas approaches and the holiday shopping season rolls on, some downtown shop owners aren’t exactly happy with the effects that it has had on their business.
“The off-months like August, September, you know, have been about the same, you know, we didn’t get the big holiday boom that we normally get,” said Brian “Bam” Hunter, co-owner of Wizard’s Alley.
Wizard’s Alley, a game shop in Wichita, moved downtown two years ago. Hunter says at that time, parking near his business was free.
“Originally, people complained about going downtown, and now people not only complain about going downtown, but paying for parking downtown,” said Hunter.
