EAST LANSING – Michigan State University trustees took another major step toward establishing the athletic department's innovative revenue-generating Spartan Ventures, although there was not unanimous approval from the board.

The board approved the creation of "Spartan Ventures" on Oct. 31 and the tax-exempt nonprofit is "designed to advance, promote and support MSU's department of athletics," according to a statement from the university.
