A man was handed a suspended prison sentence after securing a role as a hospital’s diversity and inclusion manager while failing to disclose a prior conviction for racially aggravated assault. ‌

Philip Waldman applied for the position at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust in June 2018 and began work in January 2019. He falsely claimed previous employment at the London Stock Exchange, the Bank of New York Mellon, and Santander, providing fabricated references from each company. Waldman also claimed he had only one minor conviction for being drunk on a highway. ‌
